Everything About Licensing
1. How is the license managed, is it a network license?
2. Can I return the license to pool after I finish?
3. Is there any way to get around the 4 hour license checkout? Is there any
way to check a license back in?
This is becoming a problem and is not the norm when
it comes to purchased software products.
4. How to move the license from one computer to another?
5. Can I use the license in multiple computers?
6. I am a registered user but I didn't get a license after login?
|
1. How is the license managed, is it a network license ?
|
|
All CivilBay licenses are managed as network license and they
are floating license
being checked out from a license pool.
The license is available to all computers or tablets that have internet connection
and web browser.
When a company has offices in different cities, or even different countries, it's
possible that engineers in different cities or countries share the same license
as long as the computers or tablets have internet connection and web browser.
|
|
Please note that once a license is checked out from the license pool, the checked
out license has to stay on the user's local computer for 4 hours and there is
no way to release the license back to server for other users to check out again
during this 4 hours time frame.
|
|
Please take above highlighted note into account when you consider
the number of license you need for your company.
|
|
The network license is checked out as first come first served
basis. If a company owns a single network license, when the single license has been
checked out and the 4 hours session is not expired yet, then the other users who
attempt to check out the license will be denied.
|
|
2. Can I return the license to pool after I finish ?
|
|
Once a license is checked out from the license pool, the checked
out license has to stay on the user's local computer for 4 hours and there is
no way to release the license back to server for other users to check out again
during this 4 hours time frame.
You can only return the license back to pool after the current 4 hours session expired.
|
|
3. Is there any way to get around the 4 hour license checkout? Is there
any way to check a license back in?
This is becoming a problem and is not the norm
when it comes to purchased software products.
|
|
I can understand your problem when you experience the min
4 hours licensing checkout time issue.
I would like to highlight that I am selling this
license as standalone license pricing at $250 first year and $125 per year after.
Given a senior engineer's hourly rate at around $80~$120/per hour, your cost of
one year licensing is just the cost of hiring an engineer for 2 hours work. You
can use this license for one year and save your firm probably thousand of hours.
If you view the $125 license cost from this perspective, it's a very cheap license
cost.
If your firm experiences the 4 hours licensing checkout issue frequently,
you definitely need to purchase more seats of license.

|
4. How to move the license from one computer to another ?
|
|
When computer A checks out the license, the license will stay
on computer A for 4 hours. The computer B cannot get the same license during this
4 hours time frame.
Around the 4 hours license session expire time point, make sure that computer A
is not using the program, otherwise computer A may renew the checkout for another
4 hours session, user can login to his/her account on computer B and check out the
license and use it on computer B.
|
|
5. Can I use the license in multiple computers ?
|
|
You could use the license in multiple computers. Please refer to faq1~3 above on
how to move the license from one computer to another.
|
|
6. I am a registered user but I didn't get a license after login
?
|
|
Please note the followings regarding license checkout
|
- Once a license has been checked out, it has to stay on the checkout computer for
4 hours before another computer can check it out again. During this 4 hours if you
login to you account in another computer, you won't get a license on the other
computer.
- The checkout license stays locally in the web browser's cookie and it's web browser dependent.
If you checkout license using browser A, say Internet Explorer, on the same computer
you login again using browser B, say Chrome, you won't get a license in Chrome
because the license stays inside Internet Explorer's cookie and Chrome cannot
access it.
To ensure you can always get a license to work
- You shall use the same computer during the 4 hours
session time.
- You shall use the same web browser during the 4
hours session time.
- You shall not delete your web browser's cookie or allow your web browser's
add-ons or plugins, if there is any, to do so.
If the cookie is deleted, you lose your license for 4 hours but you are able it
get the license again after 4 hours session expires.
